Default mooring locations

Hello,

Could someone provide me with a link which would help me locate free or
inexpensive locations to moor on an extended trip. I would like to sail
from Maine to Florida around the Keys and over to Texas and keep costs as
low as possible.

Thanks,
Kevin

Skipper Bob books are the bible for finding places on the ICW and elsewhere.
For much of the Maine coast and MA I can advise you on a few possibilities. (I
just spent 2 weeks in Casco Bay, mostly on moorings,) Are you looking for
moorings ($20-$30) or would you prefer anchoring? Will you have a dink to get
ashore; do you want to play tourist, etc? Are you traveling before or after
Labor Day?

The guide books I've used give little info on moorings and anchorages - they
focus mainly on marinas. Your best bet for areas not covered by Skipper Bob is
"local knowledge."

There are certainly a lot of places to anchor in Maine and Mass if you know
where to look, but it can also be a bit problematical, with 10-12 foot tides,
ledge bottoms, etc. Also, many harbors don't allow anchoring in the most
protected locations. More often than not, anchoring out implies you're not
going into town for local color.

Can't you read a chart and figure out where to anchor?

New flash: Anchoring is free!
