Well, that's the problem. It's easy to single out something that's obvious. Yes it is, It was odvious he stole the car and tried to aviod getting caught. He was caught Red Handed. Someone saw and reported him stealing it. He used approx 10 grand of public money fleeing from the cops for over 30min. What if it's not quite so obvious? Then, you leave it up to the cop to make a judgement call. No you do not. Cops go to jail every day. Im sure the guy who got caught smacking the thief will be punished. Still I stand by what I said. " I think every car thief should be smaked in the face at least a dozen time with a flashlight" Not suspected thief, but thief. Seems car thiefs here that are caught usually get a 3 year sentence and are out walking the streets again in 6 mo. In other words IF the guy got caught that stole my truck he would of spent less time in jail than I did working to earn the money to buy the truck. And on top of that taxpayers would of been shafted with a 5000 dollar bill for due process costs. He would of had a stay in a clean warm cell with TV, Drugs, Cokes, Pop corn, weight room, free education, counceling, exercise room, 3 square meals a day, medical care ect......... While I have to head back offshore, stand out in the freezing rain offloading a boat in 10 foot seas, eat cold food because it to rough to cook, get beat half to death flying across the waves at 25 knots be away from friends and family, miss out on 200 days ashore just because some sorry ass usless MF steals instead of works. Perhaps if we made a mandatory sentence of being smaked in the face with a flashlight a dozen times these thiefs might think twice before stealing. Do you think that thief would of hesitated for one second killing someone if he knew he would of gotten away scot free? I mean he came close to hitting several cars while trying to flee. Then, you have the potential of an innocent person going to jail or worse. It's better to free 10 guilty people that an innocent person should go to jail. I agree. But if it looks, walks and quacks like a duck, smells like a duck and 50 experts tell you its a duck. It's most likely a duck. That's the American way. That's justice and equality. Sorry, but as soon as you "know" someone did a crime without
due process, you're promoting everything that is against justice and everything that is anti-American. You'd be no better than the terrorist who kills babies and claims it's in the name of religion. If you don't like the sentences that judges give to convicted criminals, write to Congress or your state legislature and get them to change the statutes.
