Yeah and if they had tried to fight with guns, they would have been dead.

No comment, Bart?

???

The report doesn't say how the pirates were armed, I assume they were.

As for "trying to fight with guns," what are you trying to say? That any
attempt to resist the piracy would be futile? What if the pirates had
decided to cut their throats, or just drop them overboard? Leaves no
witnesses... they'd be just as dead. I do not advocate carrying firearms
but it is not necessarily the wisest course to trust the good intentions
of criminals.

What is disturbing to me about this incident is that it's in well
travelled waters where any cruisers going through the Panama Canal would
find themselves.

Bull, If they had a proper rifle they could of shot the helmsman of
the fishing vessel at 100 yards off. Pop a couple hundred rounds into
any wooden hull boat at the water line & the pirates would have more
important things to do than ram your boat. Your a victim waiting to
happen Johnathan. Anyone dumb enough to let any shady looking fishing
vessel approch them in the open ocean is asking to be killed and or
robbed.

Don't stand up and fight for anything you have, just hand it over to a
pack of thiefs. They were lucky the thiefs did not put a bullet in
thier heads while they were tied up.

I assure you I have the proper rifles to stop most boats dead in
there tracks and Im an expert marksmans. Wanna see pictures? I assure
you any vessel that vectors on me in the open ocean will be greated
with a shot across the bow unless we have talked on the radio. If they
continue in a threating way I will put a clip (30 rounds) into the
wheelhouse in 10 seconds. No one will raid my boat, unless they do it
over my dead body. And I aint kiddin or blowing hot air.

That indeed will be the most likely scenario.

I do like the picture of you as John Wayne taking on a 20 or so
equally or better armed men.

Assumption on your part, Oz. 20 poorly armed men won't have any
problems taking over an unarmed vessel if they can catch it. Different
scenario if they're tackling a vessel where one or more people have a
good heavy calibre rifle and the skill/will to use it. I don't have any
real doubts as to my ability to seriously ruin someone's day if I had a
7.62 Nato and all they had was AK-47 type rifles or shotguns. Esp if I
still had some of the tracer ammo we used to use when spotlighting
years ago.

If they have better arms and numbers, you're toast. Best scenario is to
be somewhere else. That's my plan.

Now as to the wisdom, appropriateness and grit to do it - that's
another matter entirely and most people wouldn't, likely including me.
Problem as I see it is that by the time you've decided you're in deep
enough **** to start shooting, it's probably too late to do any good.
OTOH I'd have no qualms about putting a round over the wheelhouse if I
thought it necessary. No person/boat with innocent intent is going to
keep chasing you after that unless they're officials in which case
you're gonna get a personal introduction to their jail system. Better
hope it's a *lot* better than the USA one.
