Which is more abrasive - Sand, or a cigarette butt? Cigarette butts kill wildlife...they're nasty...foul....and people who don't dispose of them in the proper receptacles are cretins... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. You have congenital knowledge of cretins? -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. Heinlein |

The US is responsible for one quarter of fossil fuel that is burned on this planet, and you have one thirtieth of the world's population. That means that you generate seven times more pollution per person than the rest of the world's inhabitants. Do you really think that cigarette butts will have the same impact on the environment as Global Warming? Your big fridges, car engines, air-conditioning, TV's, etc have a far bigger effect on the environment than cigarette butts. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Regards Donal -- |

Oz,
I tried hard to stay out of this but the spirit is to weak. Scotty, it's not the labor cost. It's the pollution cost. Aussies drew a bye on the "Kobi Accord" The cost of modification to the new Eniv. code is shutting down many plants in this country. Still has time down-under. OT |

You're right, Old Wise One. Plus, it isn't the hourly rate that the worker
gets, but the other costs ( union crapola, OSHA payoffs, insurance, taxes, licenses etc.) that really add up, so I was told this week. Scotty "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... Donal,
You are stereotyping the lifestyle here. I have a smallish refrigerator...14 cubic ft...we drive cars that get 30 mpg and we buy them new and drive them until they die...we use our air conditioner maybe 5 days a summer and never I never use the air conditioner in my car but prefer to have the window open...You don't have a TV? We have a small set in the living room and then we have the old tv in the family room that we very seldom use except when the grandkids are here and want to play with the Play Station...I do my dishes by hand, di not have an insinkerator or a trash compacter...we recycle all out pop bottles and reuse out plastic milk cartons until they literally are no longer usable...Think is, most of my friends live the same way...You can't judge us from tv shows....just like we shouldn't assume that you are all like Hyacinth Bucket or Benny Hill. And I live in a brick house, not glass...it's much more energy efficient and you don't lose all that heat through the glass..... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. There's no way I would get in my black vehicle (locked up) at 116 deg in the summer and NOT use the air conditioning. Maybe I spoiled or something...g LP (maybe I need hormones?) |

Hopefully, the high cost of air conditioning will drive people to move back up north! We seem to have skipped spring this year. Went from days in 40s (5 degrees C for you civilized folk) to days in the 90s (35 C) in about a week. DSK |
