We go to the movie theater to watch movies...
Not a well rounded cultural statement is it? There are many wonderful films that are not showing up at the local theatres. DVD is one of the few ways to see them. Also: If you enjoy music, a home theatre is stunning to say the least. RB |

We go to the movie theater to watch movies....the only time I used our VCR
in the past year . A brand name DVD player can be had for $119. Picture would be much better than tape and Dolby 5.1 digital soundtrack is tossed in for free. Save the VCR for watching old birthday parties. S/V Express 30 "Ringmaster" "No shirt, no skirt, full service" |

That is twice the size of our refrigerator!!!! we drive cars that get 30 mpg and we buy them new and drive them until they die... Mine 33mpg, my wife's 41mpg(AFAIK). we use our air conditioner maybe 5 days We don't have air conditioning at home. a summer and never I never use the air conditioner in my car but prefer to have the window open... I admit that I use the air conditioning in the car. You don't have a TV? I hardly watch it any more. I spend three hours at the piano, I watch the news, then I come here. We have a small set in the living room and then we have the old tv in the family room that we very seldom use except when the grandkids are here and want to play with the Play Station...I do my dishes by hand, So do we. di not have an insinkerator or a trash compacter... Neither do we. we recycle all out pop bottles and reuse out plastic milk cartons until they literally are no longer usable...Think is, most of my friends live the same way... We sort our refuse. Paper goes in the "paper" bin, plastics go in the "plastic" bin ... etc. You can't judge us from tv shows.. I don't. 25% of energy consumed by humans is used in the US. I didn't get this figure from tv shows. You use 7 times more energy than the rest of the planet's occupants. Your fridge is twice the size of mine, your car is a gas guzzler compared to my wife's car.... you have air-conditioning. Do you really think that my (bio-degradable) cigarette butts are doing more harm to the environment than your luxurious lifestyle? Regards Donal -- |

Your big fridges, car engines, air-conditioning, TV's, etc have a far bigger effect on the environment than cigarette butts. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Oh OK, so we just ignore the plastic bags, fish nets and allthe other crap because we have some bigger issues? Sure Donal...sure. I was talking about bio-degradable cigarette butts. Are you really stupid enough to compare them to plastic bags? Like many people, you like to look down your nose at people who have a bad habit that you don't have. It makes you feel superior. Well, let me tell you that there is no end to this kind of thinking. Fat people are also in a minority, and already there is talk about the drain that they place on the health service. Sports fishermen are a minority, and we are seeing discussion about the unnecessary pain caused to fish. We all engage in pursuits that have an effect on the environment. Once you join the "something must be done about it" brigade, you guarantee that one of your own pursuits will eventually be banned. Regards Donal -- |

![]() OzOne wrote in message ... Hmmmm, those smokers can do whatever they like Donal. Unfortunately they seem incapable when smoking on out beaches of disposing of their butts sensibly. They have ben banned as a direct result of their own actions Nonsense!! They have been banned because people like you like to feel superior! You're going to be next, Oz. You will find that you enjoy something that the majority of people don't approve of. Perhaps you like to drive an inefficient car?? Over here, we already have a sliding tax scale that penalises gas guzzlers. Each year we get a step nearer to a total ban. Soon, anything over three litres will be banned. After that, two litres will be the maximum. Regards Donal -- |

On Sun, 23 May 2004 00:24:25 +0100, something compelled "Donal"
, to say: Sports fishermen are a minority, and we are seeing discussion about the unnecessary pain caused to fish. The pain caused to the fish, while perhaps regrettable, is entirely necessary. Else how are we to drag them from the water and cut out their guts prior to eating them? |

Well, then we've saved $119.00. If we had one, we wouldn't use it...except for Star Trek reruns and American Idol, we barely watch tv... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. You're right, Old Wise One. Plus, it isn't the hourly rate that the worker
gets, but the other costs ( union crapola, OSHA payoffs, insurance, taxes, licenses etc.) that really add up, so I was told this week. Scotty "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... Oz, I tried hard to stay out of this but the spirit is to weak. Scotty, it's not the labor cost. It's the pollution cost. Aussies drew a bye on the "Kobi Accord" The cost of modification to the new Eniv. code is shutting down many plants in this country. Still has time down-under. OT |
