I guess it depends on why you go sailing. I'm pretty new to it and I'm crewing on a Sonata which races twice a week. The racing is fun in itself and I'm finding it good for learning in a range of conditions. One thing I've learned is that, even if there's no wind at the dock, that's no indication of whether there's any wind out on the water (and vice versa).
