Now...stop the lying and posturing. Let's all be honest. How much do you REALLY
sail your own boat. We sail Alien an average of 3 times a week and a bit more in the last months. Last summer we only managed time for 5 short trips, the longest being 5 days and the others only weekends. It's not a competition folks. Some of you may be working hard and can't manage a lot of free time. I'm just curious after a conversation with a fellow (he owns a IP 35) who only sails 3 weeks out of the whole summer. He pays a lot for a boat he hardly uses, but it's worth it to him. Even if you own a low cost boat, did you ever calculate the cost vs. time actually spent aboard? RB |

Boats are only for working on and pouring money into! They are only sailed in order to wear things out so you can replace them! Three times a week? Shame on you! |

However, I suppose that as much as 50% might be under engine. So I suppose that I REALLY sail about 1000 miles a year. We sail Alien an average of 3 times a week and a bit more in the last months. Really? I'm astonished. I doubt that we would get an average of 3 suitable sailing days a week. You must have a good supply of wind in LIS! Last summer we only managed time for 5 short trips, the longest being 5 days and the others only weekends. Pathetic!! Regards Donal -- It's not a competition folks. Now...stop the lying and posturing. Now *that* is funny. Let's all be honest. How much do you REALLY sail your own boat. Why "your own" boat? Why not OPB's? Is that how far apart your destinations are, or how many miles over ground, or miles thru the water? Since I almost always go back to the same place I started, I tend to think in terms of days rather than miles. The past two years I have not sailed as much (surprise surprise) but still go out an average once a week or so. Are there any bonus points for placing in regattas? Actually, if trips on the tugboat count, then I made about 1800 miles (nautical miles, destination to destination (or at least there and back)) last year and already about 900 this year. Placings are definitely worth points. Last year, I had my worst sailing season ever. A combination of work, and private commitments conspired to prevent me getting out on the water. I think that I only did about 500 miles. The year before, I only missed two weekends between the middle of February and the end of October. I'm determined to get more sailing in this year. However, I have two teenage sons who have discovered that girls are interesting. When I ask the family if they would like to go for a sail, I just get grunted at!!! [sigh] Regards Donal -- |

Better yet, get one of them to invite a girl sailing. In my experience women find sailing very romantic (at least, up until it involves throwing up). Fresh Breezes- Doug King |
