Default How Much Do You Really Sail?

I've heard that the average sailboat spends 85% of its time underway with
the engine running.

the opposite for me.

*IF* you spend less that 50% of the time with the engine running, then you
either sail in an area with fantastic breezes, or you may be

overestimating
the time that you are running under sail alone.

Honestly, Donut, I motor about 10%, but then, they do say the Chesapeake Bay
is the ''Greatest Sailing Area in the World''.

Scotty

hope I didn't ruin your troll, if that's what it was.

dave, the lite wind days of western LIS are typically end of July and early
August.

If so, it was a most unusual season. Having had a boat on CI for a number of
years, I can say with some confidence that the Western end of the Sound
ain't the place to sail from if you want wind regularly. There is usually
some part of the day when there's a small bit of wind, so maybe Bobsprit's
claim of few days with _no_ wind is literally true. But there's a lot of
time spent with sails slatting about. That's one of the reasons I moved my
boat to the Eastern end.

But that's only in the channel. 90% of the bay is too shallow to sail
in.

You need to look at a chart.

A mile from shore. But there was no damage, I just pulled up the
daggerboard, and kept sailing.

No channel, just the marina fairway.
