That's ok. $1600 isn't bad. Where do you sail?

Columbia River Gorge. I should be jibing and tacking between Hood
River and The Dalles.

Well, maybe just between Hood River and Lyle. The Columbia up by The
Dalles loses some of its charm.

Nice looking boat.

Now that you actually have one, let's hope you'll be spending your time
maintaining and sailing it rather than wasting your time on usenet.

I used to post here a lot. Once I bought my boat, I kinda wandered
away. IOW, now that you're in the club, you probably won't be around
much to "enjoy" it.

Thank you. I hope she's as attractive in person as she in on the
Internet, but for the price I could live with a wrinkle or two.

I foresee sunburn in my future.

Went through my West Marine catalog some last night.* I could easily
spend more on accessories than I did on the boat.

I can't see where it has a VHF radio, and while you can get through
the locks without one, having one is a whole lot easier. I don't have
much use for a GPS receiver, as I find it hard to believe that I could
become sufficiently lost on a river as to need one. A hand bearing
compass might be good, though.

It's generally very windy here, so a storm jib might find its way into
the sail locker, and a dodger sounds like an attractive addition.

A few months ago I was reading fairly regularly, but the incessant
flamefest became tiring. We'll see.

*Use the catalog to identify the products, and the Internet to get a
better price. Which shouldn't be all that hard, I mean sheesh. I
don't mind if they smoke dope, I do mind that they don't share.

Like you, I got a great deal on a boat. Which means that I've probably
spent 5 or 6 times the purchase price on maintenance and upgrades - not
sure exacty, I stopped counting when I got to a factor of three.

And in case you're wondering, yes, it was worth it.

Hey, for 1600.00 even if it's a real piece of work you still have a
sailboat....if the outboards and dinghy are ok, then you've got
something...actually, the pictures don't look all that bad...

"Dave", the knee jerk conservative, babbled:

Leave the sharing to your therapy group.

Are you claiming the consumers are obligated to buy from West if found something
in their catalog?

I don't mind giving some business to West/BoatUS - they do provide a service
with stores, 6 in my area, and a nice catalog. However, for a major purchase,
I'll always check out the alternatives. Until recently, I gave a lot of
business to a family run chandlery, Marine Exchange (known locally as
"Arlene's"), but, sadly, they're out of business now.

I was disappointed when I checked out the latest West and Boat/US catalogs.
They are now almost identical and the selection seems limited. A few days ago I
was in the local Boat/US and asked for pricing of some items in the Clearance
section. It turned out that many of the items were there because they are
discontinued by the merger, but the price is actually the original price, which
seems like deceptive marketing. I handed the items to the clerk and walked out.
