With hindsight, I would have chosen a different boat. However, I don't regret my choice for a second. Jim won't regret his purchase because he is sensible enough to sail a boat within its limits. It won't perform in the way that he expects. That doesn't really matter. He will still get enormous pleasure from sailing. Exactly, the only thing what matters is what Jim thinks about his boat. But I don't think that's the point. The point is that he justifies his purchase with wrong assumptions in the eyes of most people (the vocal ones, that is) in this newsgroup, and those assumptions are attacked IMO. I do think it's a pitty that those discussions end in a name calling contest, though..... Isn't anybody concerned about the welfare of Jims grandchildren? Jim may do as he pleases, but it would be preferable if he didn't kill some of his progeny in the process.
