Default Cape Hatteras at night

previously, I mentioned being on a boat picking our way through the lights at
night off the end of Cape Hatteras. I mentioned that at one point we were
within 30 seconds of turning back because we had not seen the next light. Then
I saw it and 10 seconds later the boat owner saw it as well and we continued.

now, some bathtub hotshots took it upon themselves to hiss that with a gps we
were being unduly diffident. I thought not then and think not now. below is
the view of an experienced sailor.

An interesting read. However, once again you've tried to prove your competence
by association. The fact that some people have had a nasty trip in the same
waters says nothing about your episode in clear, moderate conditions.

One thing that always surprised me about your account is that you never actually
explained where you were. I
I'm staggered that someone who claims to be a boat owner hasn't at least after
the fact retraced the route to figure out where you were, and why it was hard to
find the buoy even with a GPS. Frankly, I still doubt whether you took the trip
at all. At best, you were probably hanging over the rail, completely oblivious
to what was going on.

there are over six hundred wrecks in those waters.

I especially liked the penultimate sentence, "While maintaining a healthy dose
of respect for the Cape, don't lose sleep worrying about rounding America's headland".

Cheers
