Default Who will be in the water first?

In the competitive spirit of sailing, I've set
a goal of being the first one sailing this year
at the boat club. Unlike most of the club that
depend on a one day crane rental for launching,
I'm dry sailing, so I am excused from all that
crap! grin I would love to be sailing while
everyone is sweating there boats around the yard!
Ha! Last fall, there were many jealous faces,
while I sailed the wonderful late season we had
and all the other boats were hauled.

This week, I pulled by boat to the club, prepped
my mast for stepping, debated whether I should
install a windex or not, and decided to go ahead
and install it since so many people sailing on my
boat can't tell where the wind is coming from.
Everything is ready to go.

Tomorrow I'll be stepping HOOTs mast, if I can
move one big boat mast and round up enough help.
I'll have to drop the boat in the water, and then
use a gin pole built into the opposite side of the
hoist boom, to drop it in, and then haul the boat
out again since my registration has not come in yet.

There is a fellow in the area who came up with a
good gin pole idea, to drop a mast in on the trailer,
which is a great idea if you want to haul the boat
around to various regattas.

I joined another yacht club last December, and have
a slip for the big boat, so I will likely be spending
most of the spring sanding. My pickup is loaded with
West System epoxy, filler, and sandpaper.

What exciting things are the rest of you doing this
spring?

Waiting to see if we'll be shipping Chanteuse to Fort Myers, Fl in June.

I almost done teaching a beginning sailing class on a lake..
one more day. The best question so far was when one
of women students asked another male student, "Is that a
forward stay?" He replied, "It depends if you like me or not."

Crewing on a Sonata, hoping to win races in the club's Easter Series - a 2nd
and a very marginal 3rd (by 3.8 seconds!) so far.

Could have been in , Yesterday, as I was waxing the hull, they came by with
the crane and asked if I was ready. I said no, only finished waxing at 1400.
Got to go to Boston today, maybe when I return she'll be in

I like that challenge.. living at 22 degrees North Latitude
the rivers and lakes in the area are frozen solid..
except for a small pond that has an abundant supply
of organic material.. hence not frozen.
On 1 April 2004.. a famous Ottawa retiree.. Willie Watt..
launched his homemade plywood sailboat and sailed for
several hours in a brisk breeze.
And he repeated the fun and games on the water on 4 April.

Best regards... John W. Bienko... aboard Blue Eyes...C&C 27
Mark III at the Britannia Yacht Club.. envying your long
sailing season and the access to extended voyaging.

Standard Etchells fare, Bart.

Speaking of Etchells, we just finished fixing another one this week. Seems
the bronze fitting (pintle?) on the skeg came loose. They sure are pretty
boats though. We did a little topsides patching and painting so the boat
looks new!

Huh? 22 North, that'd be pretty toasty methinks. Isn't Ottawa
more like 46 North?

Cheers
