Have you shot since then? We don't allow guns in schools anymore. (except

Smith & Wesson .38 Police Special
and you had to be good to hit
anything further than 6 metres away

4'' barrel?

Mine is way more accurate than that. And, I put in the max load,
which is hard on the pistol, but I only have to pull the trigger 6
times anyway... well, unless I have to reload. It's used purely
for "home defense."

What class? These little noisemakers aren't much for accuracy anyway.
It's not uncommon for them to throw ten degrees off their sights... 6
meters? Shucks, sometimes you can't hit anything further out than arm's
reach! But it's still better than waving a knife.

At one point I had a couple of special caliber single shot pistols that
could pop a small target (say, beer can sized) from 200 yards. Not what
you need for home defense though

miss....

Bwahahahahaha. Talk about poor shots, the NSW police were the pits back
when I use to shoot practical pistol regularly. They all got issued
with Glocks recently so that they could miss with 15 rounds instead of
merely 6.

BTW, Oz, when I was working in the NT back in the early 80's, I used to
carry a Ruger Security 6 with 4" barrel (croc defence, ya know). No
probs hitting floating cans & old fishing floats 30+ m behind the boat,
it used to be a regular activity.

Nothing improves pistol shooting like practice. The S&W 38's were
pretty good guns but you guys never got enough ammo or practice to
become good shots.

That would be pretty good shooting. I have one of those, IMHO it's the
best utility grade revolver.

True. But the issue is with the inherent accuracy of the revolver, where
the alignment & spacing of the chamber to barrel are terrible. For many
calibers, the snubbies are actually more accurate because the barrel has
less chance to throw the slug off course and make it tumble.

I'd be surprised if either Ruger or S&W utility revolvers could shoot 6"
groups out of a bench machine. Still, when you get the hang of it (lots
of practice, as you & Vito both said), it's possible to ring the chime
fairly often.

Doug King
