What areas/marinas/boatyards/DIY boatyards in and around the area might one
want to wander on by and through if one were looking for a some serious
cruising boats that are sitting neglected on jackstands with torn blue poly
tarps on them? You know, boats available of 1/10th the asking price? [grin]

Friend wants something 30 foot minimum to 41 feet maximum, and most likely 32'
to 35'. The standard Hunter/ODay/Catalina/Bendy/Freedom/1,000 other glass
boats are not of interest to him. Taiwanese boats are not of interest to him.
Ocean passage boats are.

Go to the electronic version of Latitude 38. There should be plenty for
sale. I can't think of anyone who would be foolish enough to abandon
a boat that size on the hard. If it's really trashed, people tend to leave
it in one of the many inlets stripped of all easily stripped id and
equipment.
He can also try calling the local marinas (do a google search). Every once
in a while they'll have a boat they've acquired because of a bad debt.

I've gotten pretty good used parts from abandoned boats through one
of the local area administrators, but the boats are typically in such bad
shape that they're dragged up on the Army Corp of Eng. dock and
trashed... fire damage, major mold, about to sink, that sort of thing.

best bet is to check 'downwind' marinas.
