OK, you know those balls with the 'lightning' flying around inside
them?
You know what happens when you put yor hand near the ball.
Hopefully the ball is an insulator!

Now go away and think about it.

As you are so superior, why don't you just explain it?

I'm astonoshed that MC puts up with your smugness. Doug would have simply
answered the bloody question.

You are clever. I am a complete idiot.

Now, why don't you tell me about static on the VHF?

Regards

Perhaps he doesn't feel qualified to speak about VHF matters.

I really don't have a problem with somebody sounding like they actually know
what they are talking about. Why do you?

In fact, ... if a complete stranger, on rhe other side of the world, writes
something that increases my enjoyment of sailing, then *I* win. I really
don't care if he is better, or worse, than me.

Likewise, in the unlikely event that Oz would write something useful - then
I would thank him.

Do you know what capacitance is? Does z=1/wc mean anything to you?

Cheers MC

Yes.

It's too late.... Impedance= 1 over (w??)* capacitance????

As you can see, it is many years since I did this sort of stuff. I am
probably capable of understanding, if you wish to explain further.

If you are capacitatively coupled to a device you will alter it's high
frequency response. You may either shunt signals to ground or act as an
antenna. The magnituide of the effect depend on your coupling and/or the
frequency of interest.
