Default Captain Neal, You're an authority!!!

No. Not everyone. Case in point... Neal. Just kidding.
But seriously, a life should be a journey. Evolution and
progression are not discrete steps. Rather, they are a
continuous progress, a flow, much like a river to the sea.

If you're 41, you should have figured this out by now.

Your life, just like your boats, is a series of stepping stones.

This makes me wonder if you know what "stepping stone" really means!

Everyone's
life is a series of stepping stones. It's called evolution and

progression. Yap
all you like about "liking" that Beneteau, but you know it's a cheap boat
compared to many. One day you may have better. Perhaps you're already

planning
for a nicer boat one day. If not, then you're missing what the combination

of
youth and sailing different boats can offer.
Old age is for settling down with "the" boat.
Now..tell us, my boy, will you ever have a better boat?

Absoutely correct.

However, in your case, the stepping stones seem to be placed very close to
each other.

I really don't think that I will ever have a better boat. I like speed and
performance. However, I also like comfort. Therein lies my problem.
Every boat that I see that is more comfortable, is also slower.

As you can see, quality doesn't really come into the equation.

I suspect that my next boat will be more "comfortable" than my present boat.
It will also be bigger. I really hope that it will be faster. I'm not
sure that it has been built yet.

On the other hand, your next boat won't be difficult to find. It just needs
to be better than a 1970's C&C 32.

Because my progression is far faster than most. How old are you, Donal? At 41
I'm about to sail my 4th boat, and a nicer one than yours while making a
profit!
People progress at different rates. Only someone as insecure as you would be so
concerned with my "stepping stones."

Agreed. You probably won't. My new C&C is faster than your boat, nicer looking
and better below as well.

Yes, that much is clear.

Probably not. None of the boats that I have looked at are better.

You need to look a bit harder.

Now ... you tell us, do you have a goal in life?

Several, some of which I've already achieved.

You are never going to get very far
unless you try to raise your personal expectations.

But my next boat is better and faster than yours. I'm just turning 41. My
stepping stones are part of a learning curve that I enjoy and it outpaces
yours.

Your stepping stones do NOT outpace mine.

The "most" boat I'd ever want would be a new Baltic (or the like) and

we'll own
one in the next 6-8 years.

Why don't you decide to own your dream boat within, say, two years?

How much does a Baltic cost? Why can't you get one within two years?

You are 41. You may not know it, but you are at the peak of "achievement"
years.

If you ever want to own a Baltic, then you must go for it NOW.

So far, you have demonstrated that you will accept any old bargain. Let's
face it, you need to raise your expectations! If you want a Baltic, then
tell us that you will own one in two years.

You know that I am giving you good advice..... because...., like everybody
else here, I already have the boat that I want.

Oh, Donal...I see that you DO care!

I do. Honestly, I really do. Save yourself, before it is too late.

Goal #145
To own a wide variety of sailing vessels from modest to high-end over the next
15 years.
