Actually I did let my first winch go overboard this last weekend. It wasn't
secured properly of course, it just felt like it was since it had a really
snug fit. That wouldn't have mattered on the ST winches I'm used to working
with. On these non ST winches the handle started spinning around like a
propeller when we tacked and I started sheeting in on the Genny. It just
kinda took off like a helicopter

You DO have to lock them down....I don't put the winch handle in the =
winch until I absolutely need to just for that reason...that handle =
spinning around could out some teeth if someone were to get too =
close....

Mine don't spin with the handle in -unless I'm grinding of course...

I misspoke....mine spun when we had the old one-speeds on the 27 but it =
doesn't now that we have the 2 speed self-tailers....I just got into the =
habit of not slapping the handle in until absolutely necessary....
