All city run marinas close.

Why? Surely they can still make money by staying open?

Most boaters stop using their boats by early or mid-october here. It's rare to
see a sailboat in November. I kept my boats in for two winters and did some
sailing. We never saw other sailboats.

Most clubs close.

My local club has night races almost into December, with an off-season early
in the new year, reopening sometime around March. Do NY winters arrive in
November?

By November virtually all boats are on the hard. It's seasonal here.

Does your
insurance policy state that it only covers a specific period during the
year? When does it restart?

Yup. Coverage is between March 1st and October 31st. Clubs/Marinas operate
within that period. Some NY marinas don't open until April 15th. I can be in my
slip by mid-march.

or have live-aboard status at certain clubs.

My local, city run, marina stays open year round.

Half of my club continues to operate for liveaboards only.

Bob / Scotty,
My marina says they will let me stay until I'm ready to get out. I plan on
taking advantage of those cool November winds. I think it would be
outstanding if you both came to Long Beach Island and sailed with me. I'll
be the referee.
This is a serious offer!

My boat will be out of the water by November. Perhaps Scotty would still like
to go.

I meant the three of us on my boat!

Sure...I'd be up for that.

Scotty?

Yep, sure can, so long as my wife can come.
No, Scotty and I have never met. I think the guy takes this NG a bit to heart
as he's rejected my offers to sail. What can you do?
Anyway...when Alien is clear of the water I'd be happy to come for a sail.
