Welcome!

Thanks Thom. Good eye! I got tired of the rotten wood a couple of years ago and made the seats/locker hatches out of 3/4" Star Board® which is a plastic guaranteed for life. Makes one wonder why the hatches weren't made out of a suitable material in the first place. Expensive as hell but worth it. I will never have to maintain rotting wood hatches again. Between the two hatches there is 250 dollars of plastic. Thus doubling the value of your vessel. (including the cost to have them custom cut and beveled. What, don't you know how to cut a bevel? Welcome!
On a 27-footer any sailor is not a real man unless he can
haul all but the last couple feet of sheet even on a 170 percent genny by strength of leg, chest, arm and hand. The sheet winches are only needed for that last few stubborn feet. Given the circumference of the drum of about 8 inches it only takes three revolutions to take up a couple feet. That translates to six half revolutions. Big deal, man! The Bimini frame stays exactly where I put it so go **** yourself. Worry about your own boat, that is if you even have one. S.Simon "Marc" wrote in message ... Ratcheting winches are a useful feature. A. bimini which prevents the 360* sweep of your winch handle is bad design. And don't even begin to tell me you never used the high speed 360* sweep to bring in moderately loaded genoa sheet fast.....wait a minute... you don't have a two speed self tailing winch. You're entombed in a Coranado. My bad. On Wed, 13 Aug 2003 15:03:34 -0400, "Simple Simon" wrote: What's your problem? Never ratcheted a winch? Get the ones that float, then you have plenty of opportunity
to practice MOB drills. "Simple Simon" wrote in message ... True but one bump on the button or latch and off they go . . . "Jonathan Ganz" wrote in message ... Winch handles, at least most modern ones, lock in the winch. "Simple Simon" wrote in message ... Hey, stupid, don't you know that winches ratchet? You don't need strength as any competent sailor knows; you
need timing. We never use a winch handle on the Catalina 27. "Simple Simon" wrote in message ...
