Here is an ad from our Dallas paper that may be of interest to you... "Coronado 27 10Hp electric start, 2-spd wenches, 3 sails, $3200 (972) 292-1300" Looks to come complete with female crew. As opposed to the idiot who mounted the bimini so that the sheets cannot be led fair to the winch, nor the winch handle turned.... Anyone who actually sailed would have forseen this problem. As I said, it hardly matters on a boat that never sails anyway. DSK |
Welcome!
Perhaps your ignorance can be forgiven because
snapshots don't show angles too well but the bimini frame in no way interferes with the run of the lines. Yes, the frame does make it impossible to turn the winch handle through 360 degrees but, like I said, that does not matter. The handle turns freely through more than 180 degrees and that's plenty enough to ratchet a sheet up tightly. Hey, I'm sorry if I'm not as stupid as you are. I am smart enough to realize not being able to turn a winch handle through 360 degrees is much more preferable than sitting in the sun getting skin cancer. But, then again, I guess sitting in the air conditioned pilot house of your trawler provides you with plenty of shade so what would YOU know about a bimini. S.Simon "DSK" wrote in message ... 1955? Hmmmm . . .
That's about the year of birth of your lovely wife. If you don't want her because of her vintage I'll take her off your chubby little hands. S.Simon "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... So's a 1955 GE Toaster. Don't want one of those either. |

Neal,
I have to compliment you on the condition of those cockpit seats. Most Coronados are a splintery mess. At least what I can see at the hinge looks great! Ole Thom |

Winch handles, at least most modern ones, lock in the winch.

Thanks Thom. Good eye!
I got tired of the rotten wood a couple of years ago and made the seats/locker hatches out of 3/4" Star Board® which is a plastic guaranteed for life. Expensive as hell but worth it. I will never have to maintain rotting wood hatches again. Between the two hatches there is 250 dollars of plastic. (including the cost to have them custom cut and beveled. What's your problem? Never ratcheted a winch?
When you work on your engine do you not take out any bolt or nut where you cannot turn the ratchet handle 360º? Why do winches ratchet in the first place? "Marc" wrote in message ... Thats it! Ratcheting winches are a useful feature. A. bimini which prevents the
360* sweep of your winch handle is bad design. And don't even begin to tell me you never used the high speed 360* sweep to bring in moderately loaded genoa sheet fast.....wait a minute... you don't have a two speed self tailing winch. You're entombed in a Coranado. My bad. On Wed, 13 Aug 2003 15:03:34 -0400, "Simple Simon" wrote: What's your problem? Never ratcheted a winch? On a 27-footer any sailor is not a real man unless he can
haul all but the last couple feet of sheet even on a 170 percent genny by strength of leg, chest, arm and hand. The sheet winches are only needed for that last few stubborn feet. Given the circumference of the drum of about 8 inches it only takes three revolutions to take up a couple feet. That translates to six half revolutions. Big deal, man! The Bimini frame stays exactly where I put it so go **** yourself. Worry about your own boat, that is if you even have one. S.Simon "Marc" wrote in message ... You don't need strength as any competent sailor knows; you
need timing. We never use a winch handle on the Catalina 27. "Simple Simon" wrote in message ...
