Tall Ship Asgard II sinks
The Irish Sail Training Vessel, the brigantine Asgard II, sank at 7:30 am this morning in the Bay of Biscay, off Belle Ile, whilst enroute to La Rochelle. All 5 crew and 20 trainees were rescued by the French coastguard. The cause of the sinking is not yet known other than the vessel suddenly began taking water. Photos: 1, Asgard II at Waterford, Tall Ships race 2005. 2, Asgard II website photo. regards, Tuppence |
