The crank sitting in the bedplate of a 10 cylinder Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C turbocharged two-stroke ship's diesel engine. Photo taken at the Aioi Works of Japan's Diesel United Ltd. I once worked on Sulzer engines but nothing as big as this. Regards, Tuppence Wow, what an interesting job to be involved with. I have a number of pictures of that engine, I think the largest ever. It is now in a ship and I heard that it is really fuel efficient. One big engine vs 2 smaller ones. Largest ever diesel engine (so far) is the 14 cylinder version of this engine installed in the Emma Maersk and, as you say, it is amazingly efficient. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C3%A4...r_14RTFLEX96-C http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_M%C3%A6rsk http://www.jtashipphoto.dk/jtashipph...mma_maersk.htm Regards, Tuppence |
