"Bouler" schreef in bericht ... "Willem Van der Voort" schreef in bericht ... Looks like you made a trip along "De Vecht". Correct, it's a nice river with al those houses from the EOC time. Het gein is more beautiful, bud I have no good pictures from it, it is long time ago when I was there. It's the river between Weesp and Abcoude, at Abcoude you have fife minutes to sail through the railroad bridge, it opens only once a day around 13h. We were to late when we arrived, so we spend the night ad the bridge, no problem as it was very close to the village. Willem |

I didn't new they made a underground passage for the train. On the picture you can see the old bridge. The bridge have a strange way to open, it shrewd upwards to give you a clearance of only 2.70 meters (9 feet) so you have to take down radio antennas and so on to pas under it, anyway you could not get there if you didn't do it before, as there was a fixit bridge with a clearance of only 2.20m (7 feet) at the beginning of the river, but it was word the hassle. willem |

I didn't new they made a underground passage for the train. Neither did I, but I know that in the south-West part of Friesland they are building 5 aquaducts. Of course good for quick transport, but I liked the bridges but who can stop "progress". On the picture you can see the old bridge. I think the bridge was made for traffic of flat ships, not for fun;-) But it still is a nice place. -- Groeten Bouler (The Netherlands) |

Very interesting. Here in the US, marine traffic has priority over rail
traffic. There are a few modified exceptions. Due to the rarity of river traffic and the fact that it is the busiest rail line in the US, the Coast Guard has agree to try to limit the opening of the Northeast Corridor bridge on the Hackensack River during the morning and evening rush hours if at all possible. In certain situations, they will open the bridge during rush hour. I would think a country with such a fine maritime history would give more priority to shipping than five minutes per day.
