Mike,

Hi, thanks for the response. After considerable monkeying with this
motor I've about decided that it's got a head gasket issue. I thought it
might be a sticking valve or stuck lifter (hydraulic) but I've changed
my mind and come around to the conclusion I've got a head gasket blown
between no. 6 and no. 4. Either way, the head is going to have to come
off and I can check the three possibilities at that time. If it's the
head gasket then I'll pull the other head too, just as good practice.

Too bad about the ****ing contests- a good newsgroup is a valuable asset.

Thanks again,

John
"JohnM" posed a question:

Hi, I'm new here

I gathered that.

and I've got an old Buick v-6 in a Jeep. I have heard
these motors were put to marine use

Many motors were 'marineized' from a common block.

and I thought that maybe I'd be more
likely to find an authority here than with the Jeep bunch.

Not likely. After a series of '****ing contests' here, there's not much
activity in this NG.

That being said, if there's anyone here who feels like helping me with
this I'll pound out a full description of what I've done so far in
troubleshooting the problem

Go ahead and post your story- I'll see if I can help.
