Default mod a johnson 225 looper 1990??

i am running a 1990 Johnson 225 hp Looper(J225 587 456562)
on a 20 foot boston whaler, up here in denver colorado...

with the air being so thin, the boat is a lot for the motor to
push down the lake. the motor seems to run decent...and i am wondering
if it is worth the time & $ to start doing some modifications to
the v-6. what do you folks think? is this motor worth it, or should
i look for a different motor to hang on the back of the whaler?

i would like to be able to use this motor ocassionaly in the salt water,
down in the bay area (sf), or runs to catalina from long beach...i would
guess the motor would run a lot stronger at sea level...

thanx...any advice APPRECIATED !!!
