My wife is a Lincoln Navigator freak. She's had three (maybe four) of them. The current one is a 2008 model and it calls for premium fuel, according to the owner's manual. Anyway, I was a passenger in it while she drove a few months ago. She was giving me a ride to or from someplace. This was back when fuel prices were climbing daily. As she drove, I noticed that her left directional (blinker) was operating at a very slow cycle compared to the right directional. I mentioned to her that she should check the lights in her blinkers because it appeared that one of them on the left side was probably burned out. Her response? "Oh, is *that* what it is? I noticed it before, but figured it was because I've been using regular gas instead of premium." Not a joke. Eisboch |

I think I looked into it when she got the car, and told her she's better off with premium because she'll pay more in mileage and detonation by using regular. One son has a Caddy that needs premium and its the same deal with that engine. Some engines can probably handle it. But maybe your wife is right. Unheard detonation on the right bank is affecting the left turn signal. Because. like the brain, right side controls left activities. She should be a mechanic. --Vic |

At 175k it developed a leaking valve guide. I figured the writing was on the wall and bought a rebuilt motor, with a 75k warranty. We plan to keep the car which shows no visible wear after six years. The car has needed fluids and filters and brake pads once. Spark plugs are every 100k, like most cars. I know someone who has been driving the same VW Beetle for fifty years. Never a breakdown They call it preventive maintainance. He overhauls the motor every 100k, before it really needs it. 65 one way mile commute, God knows how many miles are on it. Probably a mil and a half. All highway miles. Casady |
