This looks like a neat system for those with waterfront property.
Not as good as a concrete dock and davits, but a lot cheaper. Anybody ever see one, or walk on one? Thoughts? http://www.versadock.com/ --Vic |

Did you see the video of driving a CC - looks like a 20' - up on the dock? That groove filling with water is pretty slick, but I still wonder what happens to the gelcoat/bottom paint. Another thing I was thinking is how boats are stolen by cutting them loose and towing them away. With this the thieves can cut the dock loose and tow dock and boat away all at once! --Vic |

It doesn't look like the groove fills with water until the boat has pushed the floats down far enough. Until then, it's dry. -- John H. |

Thoughts? http://www.versadock.com/ --Vic I see plenty of similar systems used by property owners along the Vermilion River, especially for small boat and jet skiis. I do not know if one system is better than the other..........although the specs on the product (wall thickness, type of plastic, QC) and customer reviews may. |

Supposedly you can leave this type dock in place. My grandfolks has a small wood pier on a lake and we had to remove the planking in the winter, and the pilings had to replaced every 10 years or so. I like that this floating dock puts you close to the water. Easier to land fish, and not so far to fall if you take a tumble. --Vic |

wrote: I was wondering about that. BTW, what kind of maintenance do you do on the concrete dock pilings down there. I noticed about 6" of shell growth on my sister's dock pilings in Punta Gorda. A lot of people, including myself, are using plastic "pile wrap". The local dock builders in SWFL know where to get it. It keeps the worms out and reduces the amount of other growth. |
