This is bad for an 06 Model!

You have any idea why this is happening?

My guess would be shore power

In the absence of anything else, I was going to guess stray currents
(which may well be from shore power) from the boat of a boater in a
nearby slip or dock.

Yet another reason to avoid outdrives! :)

Good guess but not in this case. No shore power, nobody nearby with shore
power, no stray currents etc. Volvo-Penta says they had a bonding or
adhesion problem with the paint they used on some recent outdrives. We are
working with them to get it repainted.

The question I need answered is what to do about it. Volvo-Penta says it's
out of warranty after 1 year and its my problem now! That wrong to treat a
customer that way who bought a $35,000 Chaparral boat!

Talk to your dealer and mfg'er about giving you a free or one hell of a
good deal on prepping, priming and repainting the outdrive. The mfg'er
is in a better position to negotiate with Volvo, and the mfg'er and
dealer are not interested in bad PR, so you really should be excellent
position for a free paint job, or one at nominal cost.

I would emphasize that they have an opportunity to highlight their
quality and customer service, and you would be a great salesman for
their product. At a last resort, I would let them know that if they
refuse to help, you will put on a major push to highlight your problem
with your dealer, mfg'er and Volvo. Including posts on every
boating/fishing forum you can. I would also contact the local TV
consumer advocate and Boat/US Dept. of Consumer Affairs. I had a minor
problem with a new boat, and after sending a letter to the President of
the company, he called me and after some negotiating, agreed to all of
my requests. It was a win/win situation.

Were all the anodes in place and properly installed?

Yes... all sal****er zinc anodes, grounding straps etc. This boat is on a
boatlift 85% of the time which makes the thing worse. I am beyond words...
