Sometimes I'm grateful my 4 years in the Navy kept me safe from this stuff. But I admit I liked TV enough, and cared about money so little I bought a little portable TV from Sears in '66 or so. Cost $150 as I recall. Ran about 100' of antenna wire up an open hatch to get reception in Norfolk. Had the ends twisted onto a coat hanger, which was hooked onto the hatch wheel as I remember. We'd gather around my bunk and watch it. "Man From U.N.C.L.E." and "The Wild West" were popular. After a few days a sneaky and jealous deck ape cut the antenna wire while about 8 of us were watching a show. Took it home a few days later on leave and I think one of my sisters used it a few hours and it stopped working. When I got out I paid $50 to get it fixed and it lasted only a few days, so I tossed it. Man, I could figure out ways to waste money. --Vic |
