We agree on that at least. :) My dad had about 10-12 bottles of Old Spice around the house. many glass bottles still untapped. And, they're mine! In the 70's, I worked for an ad agency that handled the broadcast advertising account of a large department store chain in this area, Woodward & Lothrop. I was the account exec. There was lots of co-op advertising money available from vendors, especially cosmetic vendors, so we had weekly radio buys and sometimes weekly TV buys. The "buyers" at the department store were always giving us samples of various cosmetics and scents, including "stylish" scents for men. I gave the cosmetics to my wife, and at first I would open the bottles of scents for males, but they were so "fruity" in every sense of the word that I stopped doing that. So, I'd go to the weekly ad planning meetings wearing my usual Old Spice, and the "buyers" would always say, "Are you wearing that gorilla scent again?" "Gorilla scent" and "gorilla clothes" were how the snooty buyers referred to scents and clothes for men that weren't in style, and the guys who used those products were called - you guessed it - gorillas. I was never in style, because I always wore traditional three button men's suits with a vest. Always. But they were good suits, so the "buyers" couldn't say much about them. Of course, these "buyers" - the male ones, anyway - were of indeterminate gender. Every one of them. :) -- "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right." |
