No need for them although I can see how they could be handy for salt water boaters having to deal with tides. Most of the public docks have a cushion covered by a thick canvas / or fiberglass mat, to protect the boat from hitting or rubbing against the wood or metal dock, but I still put out the fenders to protect the gel coat from the grit and grime that are on the canvas. Some sand or dirt on the canvas will quickly eat into gel coat. |
