What's the best device to assist in changing the gear oil?

Get a lower unit oil pump. It screws on top of a quart jug and has a
hose that screws in the bottom plug hole. This is like the pump on a
bottle of hand soap. Then you just pump the oil in until it comes out
the top holes. That is a whole lot easier than trying to hold a bottle
up to the bottom hole, squeeze it, then get the top plugs in before it
comes "unsquoze". I always end up spilling as much as I squirt and you
never seem to be able to get more than 3/4 of it out of the bottle.
I use a real drain pan with a screw on cap (for draining) that is big
enough to catch all drips. They have them at any auto parts store.
Those stores will usually take back the used oil for recycling.

I bought one of those gear oil pumps last fall to change the oil in my
new-to-me Johnson 25.
The pump was cheap and made the job so easy.

Give it a rest Sheriff Jack. The tone of this NG was ruined long ago.

In case you didn't notice Herring whined about some members here at
another place. He is a crybaby.

Yes, Jim. There has been a lot of whining in both places... about the
content of posts, about emails, about a lot of stuff. A lot of
whining by a lot of people including you, eh?

It's just that this NG had a glimmer of hope a couple of weeks ago,
but now that one side of the ongoing war has decided to come back and
use this place as the dumping ground again, the tone is tumbling
downhill again.

I had hopes for a couple of people, and just tried to point out the
difference between their actions and words. I'm not sure what I was
thinking, I won't make that mistake again with you or anyone else.

You guys get back to your fighting, and I'll go back to lurking and
reading the little bit of boating content that makes it through in
either place.

C'est la vie

I'm just here to watch the idiots...you know, people like you.
