I just helped a friend buy and set up an external hard drive as a backup unit for his laptop. It's a LaCie D2 Quadra, 320 gigs. Nothing unusual there, but...the Quadra refers to the four ways of hooking it up to a computer: USB2, Firewire 400, Fireware 800, and, fastest of all, SATA. It's a very nice unit, in an aluminum case, and comes with Retrospect software for a Mac or a PC. The unit was $180, but MicroCenter, a national storefront chain with internet ordering, too, has it at $129. This is the unit: http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0263211 There's plenty of competition for this unit, of course. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Thanks for the heads up. It is amazing how prices have dropped for HD's (including external HD's as in your case) while capacities and speeds improve. Too bad gasoline isn't following suit. BTW, on further reading, it is eSATA...which apparently means external SATA connection, which is damned fast. La Cie. d2 design by Neil Poulton. Very nice indeed! --Vic |
