"On the hard" buyer's survey on the Grand Banks is tomorrow. I am not
going to bother being there.
They are doing everything in two steps .... survey tomorrow, then launch on
the 14th and sea trial shortly after.

Mrs. E. took the dogs to the Vet this morning for the annual heartworm
thing. Turns out the Vet has been an avid blowboater for years but has been
looking to transition to a GB. He was dismayed when he heard we were
selling it (he knew all about it from Mrs.E., but didn't know it was on the
market) and has offered to buy it sight unseen if the current deal falls
though for any reason.

So, the buyers are coming out of the woodwork. Wait a minute .... now
*I* am a buyer!

I don't know. Second thoughts are kicking in.

I could rationalize selling the Navigator because it's very unlikely we
would ever use it for it's intended purpose again. And even if we did, fuel
costs have become a serious consideration for taking unnecessary trips, even
though the Navigator was very fuel efficient. When I took that boat to
Florida back in 2001, the total fuel bill was about 2,400-2,600 bucks. To
do that same trip today would probably cost close to 10K, if not more.

Plus, we had it for almost 8 years and it was time to move on.

I have to admit, that slow as it is and old as it is, I had a lot of fun
last summer on the GB. Mechanically it is fundamentally very sound and it
has quite a few "updates" to bring it up to snuff. It literally looks like
a model. But even still, it had a lot of woodwork, teak decks, etc. and it
kept me busy for the summer. Plus, it has a full fuel tank that would
probably last me for a couple of years of local boat trips at the rate it
sips fuel.

I am really wrestling with "what's next". I've looked at a few used boats
and have come to realize that both the Navigator and the older GB are in
outstanding condition for their age compared to what's for sale out there.

I think you need to pull it off the market until you come to terms with this
and make a final decision on what you really want to happen.

No can easily do. It's under agreement and contract. Easy for the buyer
to back out, but not the seller.

I think you'll miss the GB if you sell it. They have a certain warmth
and charm totally missing in other boats. Besides, where will you and
Sam Adams go to hide out?

I think we have close to the ideal combination with the GB49 for
serious cruising and a fast runabout for just riding around or
fishing.

I really did not expect both boats to sell within a month of each other.
When the Navigator sold, I was content, looking forward to another season
with the GB while I kept my eye out for something else. But .... if it's
in your head to sell anytime soon, you can't ignore serious offers. If the
GB had twins, we would likely not be selling it. Even though I got pretty
good with the "back and fill" maneuver for docking last year, I still feel
much more comfortable with twins, for many reasons.

I am just getting a little bummed out looking for a replacement boat and
seeing the condition that some of the used boats are in. They look great in
the listing pictures, but the ones I've inspected were very disappointing or
had major refurbishment requirements. I really don't want to do "new"
again.

I've pretty much exhausted current potentials in this area. I may fire up
the little Sprinter RV soon and take a leisurely trip southward, stopping at
marinas and brokerages. I suspect I'll find something somewhere that
catches my eye.

Of all the used boats I've looked at over the past two months, only
one or two were in really good condition - or the same condition that
I keep the Ranger in which is as close to showroom as an eight year
old boat can get that used on a regular basis. I fix things and
repair things - it's seems like others just use 'em and forget 'em.

Not to brag (seriously), but I keep the Ranger up to snuff and I did
that with all my boats over the years. People can't believe that the
Ranger is 8 years old it's that clean and kept up.

That's primarily why I'm looking at new.
