It is pretty much like DC IMHO. There are a lot of things in common. I live here. DC has a lot of free stuff, and is a great place to visit. But, I'll be leaving as soon as we sell the house. Next spring it goes on the market. Most people who live there never go see the "free" stuff. I know people who have been there all their life, never went up in the monument, never really walked around the Smithsonian and never saw the fireworks. I went to high school in the 1700 block of G st NW so I did get a pretty good look around (cheap "field trips" for the school) but I had still never been to Mt Vernon until my wife dragged me there on a vacation from Florida. I had seen it from across the river tho ... does that count? Mount Vernon's not free any more, and hasn't been for many years. We hit the free stuff a lot because of visitors. The Smithsonians take up at least a week, especially with the new one out at Dulles airport. If you've not seen it, that's a nice one. It's also 'free', but parking costs about $8, so take a car full. Next December go on the evening tour of Mount Vernon. You need to get tickets ahead of time but, it is well worth it. Been there, but not in December. It is a beautiful place to go while boating. Lots of photo ops. -- ***** Hope your day is better than decent! ***** John H |
