ABC, NBC, Air America, CBS, CNN and CNBC, along with all the liberal owned
newspapers have been trying their hardest to convince folks we are in a
recession in their attempt to make one happen.

Glad to see not everyone is buying into their crap.

Yes, things are just peachy! Afghanistan was left in virtual shambles,
and the terrorists are now getting back in charge, Iraq is a mess that
has cost us so much money that we are borrowing from China like a
crack whore, we're heading for a resession, almost every country in
the world sees us as bumbling bullies..........yep, good stuff!

Funnier still how certain right wing talk show personnel, making a
very handsome living by manipulating public opinion through the use of
broadcast media, are quick to condemn the "drive by media" for
attempting to influence public opinion. I mean really, how dare the
other voices in the media do such a thing?

Boils down to the same old standard. Propaganda with which one happens
to agree is useful, factual information offered solely in pursuit of
truth and in service to the public interests. Propaganda with which
one does *not* happen to agree is radical left or right wing bullcrap.

I've decided that whatever this group of old codgers sitting around
the stove and trading insults is......it isn't a boating newsgroup.
That's what I believe. 75% of the participants here have no interest
in anything except trashing one another, and thereby ruining the group
as well.

I mostly post on topic, as that's what mostly interests me. But if the
same half dozen guys have nothing better to do than swap insults for
100 plus posts in every single thread that's the behavior that is
going to dictate the character of this group. We will indeed sink to
the lowest common denominator, and in rec.boats that's amazingly low.

By the way, economic booms and busts are not a political issue.
Lying about whether the economy is tanking (or not) might be
politically motivated- but print and broadcast media don't cause or
cure recessions any more than Presidents do.

The largest single expenditure for most people (with any money at all)
in the US is taxation to run the federal, state, and local
governments.
The efficiency with which the federal, state, and local governments
control expenses *can* influence how nimble the economy is and
therefore how quickly it can recover from a natural recessionary
cycle.
Right now we suck, big, big, big, big, big time in that department.
Look around and see who has controlled government spending for the
majority of the last several years if you want to find a culprit. But
it isn't going to be the press.

Campaigning for this group to be about boating makes as much sense and

Average number of responses to a boating related post: 3-6
Average number of responses to a "you're a liberal a-hole" and "you're

over 200.

barely employed and unemployed and homeless don't matter."

I don't believe it is going to fly this election cycle.

ABC, NBC, Air America, CBS, CNN and CNBC, along with all the liberal
owned
newspapers have been trying their hardest to convince folks we are in
a
recession in their attempt to make one happen.

Glad to see not everyone is buying into their crap.

funny that the secretary of the treasury and the fed chairman...both
liberal commie radicals appointed by bush...thought the economy was in
danger of recession as well.

Do you understand the differenence between "in danger of recession" and
"in a recession"? Don't bother to answer as you obviously don't.

Why don't you explain it to us, Mr. Cement Truck Driver, or whatever it
is you do for a living?

The technical definition is a drop in GNP for two consecutive quarters.
We're close, but not there yet.

I mis-typed, it's two consecutive quarters of "negative" GNP.

stupid marxists.
Funnier still how certain right wing talk show personnel, making a
very handsome living by manipulating public opinion through the
use of
broadcast media, are quick to condemn the "drive by media" for
attempting to influence public opinion. I mean really, how dare the
other voices in the media do such a thing?

Boils down to the same old standard. Propaganda with which one
happens
to agree is useful, factual information offered solely in pursuit of
truth and in service to the public interests. Propaganda with which
one does *not* happen to agree is radical left or right wing
bullcrap.

The liberal left wing media is doing their best to make sure we go
into a
recession. Yep, they have our best interest at heart. ;-)

Right. And they all hate Bush, love terrorists, and want every single
American soldier to die tomorrow.

I have a question. If I bought you a shotgun, how much would I need
to pay
your family in order to convince you to blow the back of your head
off, in
front of TV cameras in the parking lot of a shopping mall? I might be
willing to work a second job just to see you do it and then pay
your family
whatever we agreed on.

And you wonder why people call you an idiot.

You need to seek counseling for you anger issues.- Hide quoted text -

Doug Kanter is KF'd so I do not see his lunatic posts.

I did see this one of his........and it is disturbing that anyone
would post anything like that.

Doug is mentally ill. This latest post of his proves it.

I do think he is close to being the next lunatic we see going postal
and killing folks at the next McCain or young Republicans rally in
Rochester, NY as the guy is obviously not right.

Your buddy Krause thinks Doug is pretty cool.

Both Doug and Krause have suggested people kill themselves, jump in
front of a bus etc. I don't see why JimH has a problem with Doug doing
the same thing is new BFF does.

I can just hear -barely- the Republicans whining this fall that "we're
not in a recession, everything is fine, the rich are still rich, and the
barely employed and unemployed and homeless don't matter."

The same thing was going on 8 years ago when Clinton's economy tanked in
his last year.

I don't believe it is going to fly this election cycle.

The Democrat's want to tax us to prosperity, we know how that doesn't work.

Iraq isn't costing us as much as the Roosevelt and Johnson

Another example of the cowardice of JimH. He's very good at calling
people names, saying crappy things about them, insults etc. if he has
them killfiled so that there is no retaliation. What a punk.

Harry, since you brought up the subject of employment, I'm curious. Are you
still able to furnish those fabulous benefits for all your employees?

From a prior Harry Krause posting:
I'm doing my part to ease unemployment. I'm hiring another writer for my
staff..

I need more staff because 2004 is a major election year and business
booked to date indicates we'll be drowning in work. We need to hire a
production coordinator, too. It has very little to do with the state of
the economy, other than using it as reason to defeat Republicrap
candidates.

We have first-class benefits, including a top-of-the-line health
insurance plan, a non-contributory defined-benefit pension plan, a 401k,
and a life insurance policy equal to annual salary. We contribute a
share of profits to the 401k on behalf of the employee. Our employees
pay $4.50 for generic prescriptions and $8.00 for non-generics, but
that's going up next year to $10 and $15. New employees get two weeks
vacation the first year, and that goes to three weeks the third year. In
addition, we have 12 paid holidays and we shut down from noon on
Christmas eve to the day after New Year's Day. We also provide 20 days
of paid sick leave a year. And we have an outside company administering
pre-tax flexible bennies for our employees.
Our fringe benefit package follows the trade union model, except, of
course, for the profit contributions to 401k's. Trade unions are
not-for-profit enterprises.
How do these compare to the bennies at your shop?

The 20 paid sick days aren't part of the "paid" days off unless those
days are used. None of our people abuses sick leave. In fact, no one as
yet has even come close to using 20 sick days in one year. They're there
in case they're needed.

Oh, I forgot. We also provide everyone with LTD.

The company provides an insurance plan that pays 50% of an employe's
salary for Long Term Disability. Employes have the option of purchasing
an additional 16.66%, bringing their total to 66.66%. The basic benefit
maximum is $4,000 per month. With the buy up, the limit is increased to
$10,000 per month.
