Thursday February 14, 2008, 10:00 PM

A photo in some Metro sections Wednesday showed a laughing Mayor Ray Nagin
pointing an M-4 rifle at Police Superintendent Warren Riley at a news
conference to announce new crime-fighting equipment purchased by the New
Orleans Police Department.

A review of a video taken at the event shows that the camera captured a
split second as the gun was being lowered that made it appear to be
deliberately pointed at the chief. However, the mayor clearly did not
deliberately point the gun at Riley.

The photo prompted two letters and a razz on the editorial page criticizing
the mayor, which appeared in some Thursday editions.

After a review of the video Wednesday night, the editorial and the letters
were removed from Thursday's later editions. Had editors seen the video
earlier, the letters and the razz would not have been published.

The newspaper regrets the error and apologizes to the mayor.

Stupid is stupid. Guns shouldn't be pointed at people, and Nagy should know
that.

Sounds to me like the newspaper is 'sucking up'. Don't know why that would
be....

===================

At my gun club, a continuous, fluid motion which causes your gun to be
pointed at another person will get you firmly escorted out of the range.
Depending on your attitude and your verbal & nonverbal display of stupidity,
you may be sent to the parking lot forever after they ask you for your
digital card thingie which opens the electronic lock on the door to the
place.

There are no excuses or exceptions, nor should there be. All responsible gun
owners know this, and there are no exceptions to that statement, either.
This is why many NRA members were annoyed at the photograph of then-lunatic
Charleton Heston, demonstrating to the world one way to NOT hold a rifle.

Erroneous? Nagin *did* point the gun in the direction of the Police
Superintendent, the duration for which he did so doesn't make a bit of
difference.

I'm restringing all my reels in preparation for the "warmer" season,
which is *still* at least a month and a half away. Decided to give
PowerPro a shot this year, instead of "re-lining" with FireLine. Went
over to the local marina earlier today to chat up the owner, who was,
literally, up to his knees in dredged mud. Water temp was about 35F.

It's all part of the "left wing conspiracy" that drives people like
Herring nutso.
See...a non-boating related post.
Absolutely, but I do post boating related items, too, and will continue
to do so, despite the best efforts of the turds here whose goal it is to
disrupt anything on-topic.
So do i.
But I don't make political jabs in the middle of a non political
thread.
do you?
Off topic is off topic is off topic.

Water temp was about 35F.- Hide quoted text -

Marins. Wow! a boating related post!

Fishing is *on topic* in rec.boats.

Got anything even mildly interesting on topic to post here?- Hide quoted text -

Sure, and it won't have political slams in it either.

how about you?

Still off topic, eh, Tim?

Been a long, long time since you posted anything useful or original
about boats. What sort of boat do you have, and where, generally, do you
boat? Got anything on topic to add here?

Harry, this is at least the 5th time you've cut and pasted that same
line to people (including myself) that never said anything of the
sort.

so, what's the point? *You really are starting to look like some lune.

Whoosh....I took one of your messages, cut out the off-topic bilge, and
asked you about your boat and boating, and closed with asking you if you
had anything on topic to post here.

yeah, you did the same to gould, vic cmith, herring, too.

Tim, Harry said he went by a marina and they were scooping mud. That's
boating related and is enough to keep him covered for the next three
months.

Yes. You forget that Harry's rules don't apply to Harry.

They form his 'character'.

Harry,
As the king of off topic drivel, do you see the hypocrisy of your new
found conversion to only having On Topic discussions? Do you remember
you going off on Chuck when he suggested you stop your cut and paste
political trolls? It seems that your two silly posts "marina and
fishing line posts" yesterday were just your effort to now accuse
everyone else as being off topic. It is hard to tell if you really
believe any of what you post in rec.boats, but I am beginning to think
you really are delusional.

Good lord, how many posts a day does ReggieCrap address to me... and I
am sure all of them are *filled* with his non-boater's wisdom gained
through experience.

Speaking of boating, Tim, what are you doing to prepare for the upcoming
season, I mean, aside from playing junior snark in here?
