He said we could "get home fast without any problems because of my shield", but we had to drive perfect and legal in Broome County, NY. Why? He'd been warned by other cops that the NY State Police in that neck of the woods had a small contingent of good old boys who were KKK members. They **** on his shield and ticket him. We did 54 mph through the county, and the same for 1/2 hour over the border, too. KKK. Police. Upstate NY. Unreal. |

I agree that both cops under discussion here should be fired, at the least, and in the case of the paraplegic, charged with assault and do a little time in jail. However, Vic, in your scenario above, you don't mention guilt whatsoever. I've received three tickets in my life. In all three, I was polite, the officer was polite, and I got a ticket. Why? Because I committed the violation! -- John H |

However, Vic, in your scenario above, you don't mention guilt whatsoever. I've received three tickets in my life. In all three, I was polite, the officer was polite, and I got a ticket. Why? Because I committed the violation! Well, that's why I mentioned luck. I had an asshole cop give me a ticket once when coming back from fishing the cooler in the trunk knocked one of the tail light sockets loose. I had it back in and the cooler in the back seat before he started writing the ticket, but he went ahead and wrote it anyway, costing me a days work to beat it in court. OTOH, more than once I was guilty of other stuff - speeding, wild driving, etc, and just got a warning. A couple times I really should have had the book thrown at me but for some reason got off. One I remember well was a couple Chicago cops pulled me over for running a red, speeding, and passing in an intersection. I pulled into a 7-11 before they could even get their mars lights going, and was walking into the store when they screeched up yelling at me. I was acting all innocent. Somehow I got to talking to the older one about him retiring up in Hayward, Wisconsin, where I often fished. The young cop stormed off to the squad and sulked when that conversation started. Nothing happened except some fishing talk. And I found out which cop was boss. Like I said, some of it is luck in who the cop is. And sincerity. I'm usually chagrined when I get pulled over, and I think the cop can feel it. I've had some tickets though, and deserved them. --Vic |
