You can't even figure out the primary function of a bomber!

It's primary purpose is a weapons delivery platform.

It can also be used as a threat, in some cases making the use as a
delivery system unnecessary..

Just the sight of it over-head can cause enemies severe diarrhea in a
combat
zone. :-)

Usually they fly too high to be noticed by ground forces. Now a "Puff"
or even old "Spooky". (not counting Cobra's and various other
gunships) that would be different story

But a "SBD" (silent but destructive) drop from a Strato? the enemy'd
probably call a day pretty quick.

Buddy of mine was a SAR helo crewman. He said the only time he saw abject
terror was when they were trying to rescue a down pilot and the fast movers
from the carrier were going to be about 5 minutes to late. They got a radio
call and the caller said this is Puff and I will be coming out of the sun.
When the VC heard the plane, he said they took off running. Dropped weapons
and anything else to gain speed. The jungle was about 5' tall and he said
it looked like a lawnmower going though the grass. Cutting everything off
at ground level. They did get the pilot.

Puff, at night, was a beautiful sight!

A 20mm gun firing 6000 rounds per minute will leave a nice, wide,
vegetation free path through the woods!

Both comments are true, but the peaceniks among us implied we never had use
for either a threat or a platform, that the plane was a 'waste of money'.

For the most part the Peacenicks are neither peacful or informed.. who
really cares what they think, Give them a bottle and a pacifier and
get back to work...
