Inflation Rate Is Worst in 17 Years WASHINGTON (AP) -- Higher costs for energy and food last year pushed inflation up by the largest amount in 17 years, even though prices generally remained tame outside of those two areas. Meanwhile, industrial output was flat in December, more evidence of a significant slowdown in the economy. Consumer prices rose by 4.1 percent for all of 2007, up sharply from a 2.5 percent increase in 2006, the Labor Department said Wednesday. Consumers felt the pain when they filled up their gas tanks or shopped for groceries. Prices for both energy and food shot up by the largest amount since 1990. I'm tellin' ya....we should've invaded Saudi Arabia instead of eye-rock, and just taken their damned oil. At least we could've been honest about that mission. Put the whole damned country under new management. Speaking of SA, did you see our fearless leader begging in the Middle East for the Saudis to drill more? If memory serves, oil was around $25 a barrel when President Idiot presumed office in 2001. I was busy getting a stomach ache over the real reason for his visit: To tell them we were happy to sell them more weapons. It's not a matter of *if* we'll regret that at some point in the future, it's a matter of *when*. We have to sell the Saudis the weaponry, else they'll cut back on oil. Why not just pull out. Let some fanatic get power hungry and when Saudi gets it's control of government is threatened let them pay a trillion or two for the services if the USA to intervene? The problem is that there are arms sales whores all over the world, and the purveyors have no interest in breaking the cycle. The Saudis have the bucks and the oil to buy whatever they want from whomever they want. But do they have the guts to go out and fight for their freedom? I suspect raising a trillion would be more their style. I really thought that after the debacle in Vietnam, we might have learned some lessons about proliferating weaponry and warfare. Nah. Agreed. If your going to fight a war, go in, do it then get out. |

HEY CHUCK! Isn't this 'political horse ****'? -- John H Yeah. And I'm doing my best not to participate in it, thank you. I slip once in a while, but there's a huge difference between hoping to find some boating related discussion at this site and cranking out one troll-post after another. Wonder what they'd think over on the "libs.r.us" or "bush.for.king" sites if I just started posting a bunch of boating related threads? My bet is that would be just as silly and out of place as all the political trolls are on this boating site. Yeah, yeah. "You can ignore them". That's like trying to ignore the litter after the recycling truck rolls over at the corner. :-) Chuck the amazing thing is that you don't chastise Harry or other lefties when they start spewing political crap. Actually the opening line was: 'Under Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat controlled Congress' Sorry, Bilious, but the Democrats do not control Congress. They have simple majorities. When you control Congress, you have supermajorities, enough votes in your own party to control legislation and to overturn presidential vetoes. Simple majority seems to work just fine when electing people to office. Why doesn't it work when congress votes? Could it be that there are some democrats who don't want to go in the direction of Pelosi and Reid? Not to worry. Next January, the Democrats will control the White House and increase their simple majorities in Congress. We will see. Unless your write-in campaign for Zell Miller or some other lunatic succeeds. We have 10 months to go before citizens are allowed to vote. What economic policies there are in place now are those of the Bush Administration. And.... Bad news for the GOP. So sad. What is the bad news. The people put the Democrat's in charge of congress and they couldn't get anything done, except changing the menu in the cafeteria. That is going to impress a lot of people. |

Next January, the Democrats will control the White House and increase their simple majorities in Congress. Unless your write-in campaign for Zell Miller or some other lunatic succeeds. What economic policies there are in place now are those of the Bush Administration. Bad news for the GOP. So sad. They control congress. They have a majority. They "can". But they don't. Eisboch That is very true. May be why Congress has a lower approval rating than the POTUS. |
