I truly am interested to understand the other side and maybe I might change my opinion some. |

We have treaties and agreements with many countries obligating us to do so. (bag of worms here, I know, but still ....) Uh, I think maybe you are actually helping my case. Thank you! ;) Just because some (fill in your own adjective!) politician signed the treaty or agreement in the first place, does that make it the right thing to do for the American people? Are the lives of our troops a justifiable cost? I do not think so. |

As Tom knows, I pass along the support shown to our troops here to my son and the other Marines I personally know. I have yet to read any support to my son in the "Our Marine" thread. So what is your point? My point is that the "Support the Troops" concept is one where the troops can actually read a personalized card of support. It really is a great idea, one I would think you would readily endorse. Nice snip Jim/Reggie. Why did you snip the following from my post: "As Tom knows, I pass along the support shown to our troops here to my son and the other Marines I personally know. I have yet to read any support from you or John to my son in the "Our Marine" thread." 'nuff said. I have never known anyone who needs more stroking than you. I hope your son got his spine from his mom's side of the family, or he will be in a world of hurt in the Marines.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Apparently he does need as much stroking as his dad. Jim has stated that he lets his son read the responses..... |

If the elected representatives believe it, then the answer is yes. That's why they are elected - to represent the wishes of their constituency. Are the lives of our troops a justifiable cost? I do not think so. Lives are expendable - for any variety of reasons. The peculiar "enlightened" mindset that lives of troops have to be justifiable is just plain silly. Compare the daily toll taken by drunk drivers nationally on a per year basis - close to 17,000 of our fellow citizens die every year due to one or more operators of motor vehicles being drunk. That's 48 people per day dead because of aberrant behavior. Is that a justifiable cost just to keep liquor, beer and wine companies in business? It's all relative. Last year, 1,200 workers died in construction accidents. 60% of those deaths were workers aged 20 to 24 years old. Is that a justifiable cost for building things? It must be becasue every construction contract has a built in identifier for number of deaths for insurance company tables for potential liability. To bring this around to war, would the troop deaths be justifiable if, say, we decided to go to Dafur, kiss ass and take names to bring some stability to an impoverished nation? Prevent starvation and disease? Establish a stable government by the people, for the people? Of course it would be. |
