Our retirement model that we finally agreed on was to have a house in the south and a boat north to live on in the summer. We also considered having a home north but given the relatively short summer season in the northeast, and the fact that we also wanted to cruise the Bahamas and points south, a boat made more sense. If operating costs get too high we could always leave the boat north for the winter but I'd hate to do that. The trip is always an adventure and it's nice having the boat docked behind the house ready to go anytime we are. I think you're fighting the jealousy giant with a couple folks here. |

I haven't seen 26' waves since Skipper, Dan, and Bert Robbins swirled around the toilet bowl on their way to the septic tank. They must recycle sewage effluent south of the border. Dan's still here (or at least his evil twin Freddie) and now Burpie is back... or is that Bertie? If Skipper shows up we may have to invite some 'ole time religion' to counteract all the negativity. Speaking about effluent....... Just got back from walking my Springer Spaniel in Point Pleasant Park. I saw 5 , (count 'em 5) surfers having a ball in the inner harbour on 7-8 foot waves. First time I've ever seen this. Even though we're finally are getting our new sewage treatment plants up & running, they're only an advanced stage1 type. Yuck... like surfing in a septic tank On the bright side...tree loss down there not too bad this time. |

It would take all the fun out of it. When I had my Contenders, other than fuel usage, I was like you - I didn't want to know the total operating cost. If only because I couldn't justify the boats if I did know. :) However, Mrs. Wave, being the practical Irish lady she is, knew it to the penny. ~~ mutter ~~ My wife does not admit to knowing. Just got delivery of new fenders to replace the 16 year old ones on the trailer that have developed cracks. Most expensive problem at the moment is the fact the gas gage is reading near empty after the weekend crabbing. And since it is a 67 gallon tank, will cost more than the fenders. |
