The only thing I knew about Wichita (home of Skipper) in those days was
that it was filled with the dumbest right-wingers on the face of the
planet. I'm not sure things have changed much there.

When I started working at the KC Star, there were two threats oft
repeated by the city editor...if you f*cked up, you were sent out to the
western Kansas bureaus, and if you really fu*ked up, you were sent down
to the Wichita bureau.

In those days, The Star was a real newspaper. Sadly, like many other
papers, it is now part of the chain of newspaper mediocrity.
