I saw the Yama based boat lurch forward, right from the start for a
second so I know at least he engaged. Almost like he did not floor it,
or the Yamaha just does not deliver the torque..

I missed the lurch, and thought I was paying attention!

They really should have run the test several times to make sure each
was applying throttle at the same rate.

It certainly is an important test for boaters who
hook up stern to stern with another boat and play tug-a-war.

You better be wearing a neck brace and seatbelt when you firewall that
150 on your new boat. :}

Make sure you get properly propped. That engine should turn 6000 rpms
when level with the water and with two or three guys and a full load of
fuel aboard. Mine does. You will have a different prop, but it still
should produce 6000 rpms or damned close to it.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, and wondering if I'll have to do
that when I get my boat. Did you, and if so was it hard finding an
E-TEC to tie up to?

There's no problem finding eTec's tied up to the dock. I finally saw one
running the other day, on the cop patrol boat. The cop was idling out of
the marina. I thought his engine was noisy.

It comes with a factory spec stainless steel prop. I'll probably leave it
alone.

I asked that same question and if you look at the video, the Yamaha
moves forward.

It was a fair test in terms of how it was done.

It wasn't a fair test because that Yamaha is one weak assed motor with
no low end torque.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with the one-bladed, bent prop on the
Yamaha, and the reliable outboard powerhead from Mercury that Evinrude
stuffed under that etec hood.

Regardless of what one might think of the engines or the test, I
thought it was an interesting demonstration of the low transom effect.
The fact that the boat capsized when about half full of water was eye
catching also.

Does anyone know if it had "level flotation" ?
