Jeesh! I had no idea renting a storage unit was so expensive!! Just
got done calling the closest 2 storage facilities (in proximity to our
house) and the one is $100/month (5% discount 6 months paid in
advance; 10% discount 12 months paid in advance), and the other is
running a special of $85/month (normally $95) now thru the end of
August, I believe she said. This is for a 10x25 garage-type indoor
storage unit to store a 17' boat/trailer in. The one place also offers
outdoor storage for $1.50/linear foot/month, with a minum of $35/
month. Which is great, but not the safest/most secure. We don't have a
pole building or anything, and I don't really care to have a boat/
trailer parked outside my house year-round, so if DH ends up buying
this boat he's looking at, we need to figure out where to put it.

I haven't called the marina to ask them, but I'm sure it's probably
more expensive than the storage units!

Rochester NY, for a 10x20, $115 per month. That was the cheapest I found,
unless I wanted to drive out the the sticks, where I could've paid
$80-$90.

This may help you as you can get prices from various States and
regions:

Wow...I could clean up operating a boat storage lot!

If you buy real estate on speculation of a high demand for the
property in the future you are wise to construct low cost storage
units on the land while waiting for the land price to go up.

I'm more than a little familiar with the concepts of land speculation. :}

Of course. More evidence of narcissism.

Cue Don...

Well, a conumdrum if there ever was one.

Prices around here (NE CT) for a 10X25 are about $85 a month.

Welcome to the world of boating.

The marina will be higher.

Just get a really good cover and cover support system for the boat and
get used to it being in your driveway.

I was just quoted $229/month for an indoor 10'x30' garage-type unit.
I'd consider $100/month a very good deal.

If it is a nice-looking boat, you can store it on the edge of my
cornfield for $100 a month. Of course, you'll have to be prepared for
several families of critters moving in...- Hide quoted text -

well I found a guy who rents space in his barn for the winter, at 10'/
foot for the entire winter season. So we'll probably do that at least
from Oct-Apr/May. But during the fishing months I guess it'll have to
be parked in the drive, or off to the side.

That's not too bad. I'm a bit surprised at boat storage rates up
north.
Last year I priced boat storage around Charlotte harbor in Florida,
and found monthly rates of $2/ft outside, $4/ft inside.
With a 17' boat I'd get creative with space alongside the garage,
if you can.
