Default Shortwave - Jake's

OK Shortwave, here goes...

I've had my boat at Jake's for about three years. I moved it from a
marina on the east end of the lake when we bought a new house and
moved.

Positives - it's the closest marina to Lexington, it has good water
depth so it was fully useable while the lake was down 15 feet during
dam remediation, and the costs are typical for Lake Murray, for slip
fees and gas.

Negatives - when you come out of the cove, it's on big water, and
there's lots of boat traffic. Parking is poor, and the road is even
worse. The facilities haven't been updated since the '50s (no
kidding). Fairly busy, but not unreasonably so. Archie, the owner.

To expand, Archie is a bit of an ass. I'm not sure he means to be,
but he is. No personality, and he sure doesn't have a clue on how to
interface with the public, and his clients. He's famous in the area
for being that way. If someone asks where I keep the boat, and I tell
them Jake's, they invariably ask "Is Archie still there? He's an ass,
isn't he?" I'm not making this up. I could tell you some stories,
but I'll save it for the boat ride.

In the end, don't let him keep you away. I'd move if it made sense
for me, but only because I like the west end of the lake better. He's
not that big of a deal.

Good luck!

When I lived in Lexington we used Jake just to launch the boat. We were
able to keep the boat that the house. Never met Archie that I can
recall, or never knew who hw was.

I can agree with everything else you posted :-)
