Default Speaking of boats...

Here's some film I shot with my new camera today.

I was experimenting with the tripod. The final speed shot, the camera
fell over before I got to 50.

Sorry about that. :)

So what do the town fathers in Webster think about you doing speed
trials on their nice little lake?

Well, considering that a couple of local ocean racers use that
particular pond for testing their 42 foot 1200 horsepower super
charged racing boats, not much. :)

Bozos. Next thing you know you'll have 5 mph Manatee zones.

What I want to know is how do you fit

"Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg"

on the transom of your boat?

I thought my mapping software was broken when I saw that.

No Manatees. The occasional 48 lb pike, but no Manatees.

Webster Lake.

Been that way for years. I had a DEP guy from SC ask me when I was
filling out my out of state fishing license if I lived anywhere near
the lake with the long name. :)

Doesn't matter, most of our Manatee zones don't have any either. Of
course anyone who wants a speed limit for some reason will claim that
they once saw one.

That's where my parents honeymooned a few years back, I had to learn
to spell it once when I was young to get an ice cream cone from dad.
Apparently the indians were fighting over fishing rights in the lake
from both sides long ago and they made an agreement:
"You fish on your side, I fish on my side, no one fishes the middle".
That's what the indian name of the lake means, or so I was told. Looks
very nice, I have never been there.

It's a fable - the name is Nipmuc for neutral fishing grounds or
something like that.

Webster Lake is interesting because it's believed that there are four
seperate ponds and at one time had four seperate eco systems. If you
look at a map of the lake, there are three narrows seperating North,
Middle and South Ponds and Smith's Cove where Indian Ranch resort and
concert hall are. There is evidence that the Nipmucs connected the
North and Middle ponds early on and the second was opened by a flood.

It's a fun place to boat. It's also deadly. When I was on the
Regional Dive Team, over ten years, we did eleven or so body
recoveries on that lake from boat accidents.
