Speaking of boats...
Here's some film I shot with my new camera today.
I was experimenting with the tripod. The final speed shot, the camera fell over before I got to 50. Sorry about that. :) http://www.swsports.org/images/Movies/erudelake.wmv |

Next thing you know you'll have 5 mph Manatee zones. What I want to know is how do you fit "Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg" on the transom of your boat? http://tinyurl.com/oahbe I thought my mapping software was broken when I saw that. |

I was glad to slow down for the miles required. The world doesn't exist just for us, you know. Or maybe you don't know. |

There is a rationale for some of them but manatee protection is the hot button that gets them implemented - even where there are few or no manatees. There is a notable example 2 miles south of here on the Caloosahatchie River. A fellow with a house directly on the river was tired of being buzzed by jet skis and speed boats with straight thru exhaust. He donated a big pile of money to the "Save the Manatees Club" and they lobbied (successfully) for a 1 mile slow speed zone in front of his house. Government at its best. :-) |

So did a lot of others in that immediate vicinity. We actually got one airboater arrested for disturbing the peace. |

That's where my parents honeymooned a few years back, I had to learn to spell it once when I was young to get an ice cream cone from dad. Apparently the indians were fighting over fishing rights in the lake from both sides long ago and they made an agreement: "You fish on your side, I fish on my side, no one fishes the middle". That's what the indian name of the lake means, or so I was told. Looks very nice, I have never been there. |

But the increase in fuel prices has convinced me that Big Oil and refiners need to be under citizen oversight, and that individuals who use tremendous amounts of petrol resources for their own pleasure should pay an additional penalty on top of the high prices for their fun, and the moneys collected via the penalty be used to subsidize essential petrol use by the poor. |

Yawn. Last I knew, there were about seven "generally accepted" legal accounting practices. Within the limits imposed by law, businesses routinely adopt that one that best serves the interest of the business .... often changing from reporting period to reporting period as situations and markets change. Nothing wrong or illegal about doing that ... it's prudent and responsible to do so in the best interests of the stockholders. To do otherwise may land you in jail, especially now-a-days. Eisboch |
