It's a smooth machine, and I have built up some endurance. But I can't
do more than 10-12 minutes on the damned thing without the knees saying,
"Hey, Guido...are you kidding? You want to see flames and smoke coming
out of us?"

That's pretty much all I do on mine. I do a 10 or 15 minute fairly
aggressive "interval" type workout on it just to get the heart rate up, then
shift over to the treadmill for 30 or 40 minutes.

Bought a Trek bicycle during the winter. Now that the weather is improving
I am
hoping to substitute some of the daily elliptical and treadmill workouts
with some riding.

Interesting visit to the doctor last week, the first after 6 months on my
diet and exercise program. In addition to achieving my weight goal by
losing 65 lbs., my
cholesterol reading has dropped from 223 (6 months ago) to 185. Blood
pressure is 118/63 .... down from 155/90. Resting pulse rate is about 60
..... down from over 80. Rest of the bloodwork stuff (sugar, etc.) was
perfect.

The doc was quite impressed as it was accomplished without benefit of any
medication. I mentioned to him that according to the current standard
weight charts, I
was still about 10-15 lbs over my "ideal" weight. He shook his head and
told me I didn't need to lose anymore. Actually, at one point I was closer
to 190 lbs and Mrs. E. told me I was starting to look sickly, so I have
stabilized at about 195.

Now the challenge is to keep it there.

Maybe Richard should hold clinics in that fancy gym. Rec boat posters could
fly in for a couple of weeks of intensive training and motivation.

You don't need a gym or even need to go to a gym. You just need a big ass
lock on the refrigerator door.
