OT- Screwed... but we've talked it over before....

And it might just be my odd perspective, but I'd think that the fasteners you are using on your deck are pretty much in topic here. Do you think the difference is in the casting or tempering (or whatever the process is) of the screw itself, or does the star drive head spread the torque more evenly to reduce the stress on the threaded shank? |

I suspect the other screws were made of 304 or 316 stainless.... neither, a heat treatable alloy.... though they could have been work hardened to some degree in the thread rolling process. Small head, so is not really noticeable. As to Grip Rite screws, the Philips version sux. They seem to strip easily as oppose to the others that are a combo Square drive / Phillips head. |

I haven't done decks, but often pre-drill to avoid splitting. Non-issue with decks? --Vic |
